BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — The launch ceremony of "Silk Road E-Commerce Day 2025" and a meeting on cooperation in the field of "Silk Road E-Commerce" were held recently in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang Province.
According to information posted on the website of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the event was attended by over 500 representatives from government, business, academia, and research circles from countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, including Russia, Indonesia, and the UAE. Participants engaged in an in-depth discussion of new opportunities in the global digital economy and how to promote cooperation in the field of "Silk Road e-commerce" to a new level.
The "Silk Road E-Commerce Cooperation and Development Report 2025" was presented at the meeting, marking the start of a new phase of digital trade. The report notes that "Silk Road E-Commerce" is not a one-sided market development, but rather draws on China's experience, technology, market, and platform advantages in e-commerce to jointly seize development opportunities with partner countries, stimulate their domestic growth, and build new international channels of cooperation in the digital economy. China's vast and ever-growing consumer market offers extensive market opportunities and development prospects for products from partner countries.
Looking ahead, China will actively expand the circle of partner countries, focusing on deepening cooperation in four areas: first, establishing e-commerce cooperation mechanisms to strengthen dialogue, consultation, and consensus-building; second, emphasizing complementarity and synergistic development to deepen and practically promote Silk Road e-commerce; third, enhancing the e-commerce development potential of partner countries in three areas – talent training, technological enhancement, and results sharing; and fourth, promoting market connectivity and experience sharing to create new sustainable and inclusive growth engines.
Stepan Gusamov, CEO of the Russian company Ozon Global, explained that Ozon is Russia's leading e-commerce platform, ranked seventh in the world by traffic, with 60 million active users and its own logistics, warehouse, and other infrastructure. He noted that the Russian market is not only large but also has a high level of e-commerce penetration, expressing hope for attracting more Chinese sellers to the Ozon platform and strengthening cooperation with Chinese partners.
