Bishkek, September 28 (Xinhua) — A celebratory cultural event dedicated to the 2576th anniversary of the birth of the great ancient Chinese thinker and educator Confucius and Confucius Institute Day was held on Saturday in the assembly hall of Secondary School No. 69 in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
The event was jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at the Kyrgyz National University (KNU) and Secondary School No. 69 in Bishkek.
In her speech, Jia Jingfang, Director of the Confucius Institute at KNU, noted that the event aims not only to showcase the fruits of the joint efforts of Kyrgyz and Chinese colleagues from the Confucius Institute and all classes and teaching centers, but also to showcase the remarkable achievements of Kyrgyz students in learning the Chinese language, understanding Chinese culture, and their multifaceted talents.
School No. 69 began collaborating with the Confucius Institute at KNU in 2009, and opened a Confucius Classroom in 2012. In an interview with Xinhua, school principal Sairagul Atayeva said that studying Chinese helps students better understand China. Many of the school's graduates have found jobs in Chinese companies or become Chinese language teachers. "The constant expansion of relations between Kyrgyzstan and China provides our children with a valuable opportunity. Our school is ready to contribute to the great cause of friendship between the two countries," she stated.
During the event, students and teachers from various Bishkek schools and the Confucius Institute at KNU performed a variety of shows, including Chinese songs, traditional dances, musical instruments, martial arts demonstrations, and more.
Albina Zhenishova, a tenth-grader at School No. 69, has been studying Chinese for three years. At the event, she and her classmates performed an excerpt from the cantata "Yellow River." "I'm very happy to participate in today's event," she said, admitting that Chinese is a very difficult but interesting language. "I hope I'll have the opportunity to study and work in China," Zhenishova noted.
