WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he would send troops to Portland, Oregon, to fight "domestic terrorists."
“I am directing Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to provide the necessary troops to protect war-torn Portland and all our ICE facilities under attack by Antifa and other domestic terrorists,” Trump wrote on social media.
Portland Mayor Keith Wilson said in a statement in early September that, like other mayors across the country, he had not asked for or needed “federal intervention.”
On Saturday, Wilson said that "the number of troops needed in Portland or any other American city is zero" after Trump ordered "essential troops" to be deployed to the city.
Earlier, D. Trump deployed troops to Los Angeles and Washington, which sparked protests. –0–
