BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) — The 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Traditional Medicine Forum kicked off Thursday in Ganjiang New Area, East China's Jiangxi Province, bringing together nearly 200 representatives from various countries and regions, including China, Kazakhstan, and the Republic of Korea, the China News Service reported.
The forum is being held under the slogan "Deepening International Cooperation in the Traditional Medicine Industry and Promoting Mutually Beneficial Development." It is being organized by the SCO Committee on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation and the People's Government of Jiangxi Province.
The forum will feature key events such as an opening ceremony, keynote speeches, thematic sub-forums, and study tours.
"China has established nine overseas centers of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in collaboration with Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and other countries," said Huang Luqi, Deputy Director of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmaceuticals of the People's Republic of China. He proposed fully utilizing the characteristics and advantages of traditional medicine and implementing academic exchanges, personnel training, and research collaboration with SCO countries and states participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. He also proposed strengthening the development, utilization, and protection of medicinal resources, as well as enriching diagnostic and treatment methods in traditional medicine.
At the opening of the forum, the SCO traditional medicine information exchange platform was officially launched, marking a key step for the SCO in digital cooperation in traditional medicine.
The recently published document by the General Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, entitled "Opinions on Improving the Quality of Traditional Chinese Medicines and Promoting the High-Quality Development of the TCM Industry," proposes improving the mechanism for international cooperation in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, developing trade in TCM services, and promoting its openness and innovative development.
Zhu Guangyao, a second-level inspector at the Department of Trade and Services of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, said that the Ministry of Commerce will encourage traditional medicine companies to actively participate in various trade promotion activities within the SCO to showcase and promote high-quality products and services. -0-
