URUMQI, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) — Members of the central delegation visited cadres and local residents in many places in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Thursday.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and head of the central delegation, led a group of members of the central delegation to the city of Korla.
During the trip, members of the central delegation visited a local school, hospital, and village, where they learned about the state of affairs in aiding Xinjiang in the development of education and medicine, industrial development in rural areas, and the work and lives of local residents.
Wang Huning stressed the importance of improving basic education in Xinjiang, especially in its southern regions, calling for strengthening the sense of belonging to the Chinese nation among young people and adolescents.
He also called for further improvement of local health and medical services and promotion of rural revitalization.
Other groups of members of the central delegation visited the cities of Kashgar, Urumqi, Karamay, Bole and Changji respectively. -0-
