UN, September 24 /Xinhua/ — A resolution to the Palestinian issue is urgently needed, as it underlies instability in the Middle East. China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Geng Shuang, stated this at a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on Tuesday.
According to him, the Palestinian issue remains central to the Middle East, affecting peace and stability in the region.
For more than 70 years, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has repeatedly led to chaos and war, shaping the international landscape, he said.
Since the start of the current war in Gaza, the Palestinian people have been plunged into deep suffering, he said, adding that tensions have increased in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran, and even Qatar has come under attack.
Growing conflicts and instability in the Middle East have worsened the global security situation, weakened the global economic outlook, and run counter to the common interests of the international community, he emphasized. "That's why it's essential to prioritize this issue and expedite its resolution," the Chinese diplomat stated.

Noting that Israel recently approved the E1 settlement plan, Geng Shuang stated that this dangerous action constitutes a serious violation of international law and Security Council resolutions, undermines the territorial integrity of Palestine, and erodes the foundation for the establishment of an independent State of Palestine.
The implementation of the "two-state solution" is the only viable solution to the Palestinian issue, he emphasized, adding that several Western countries have recently recognized Palestinian statehood. The international community must support the current momentum, the swift establishment of an independent State of Palestine, and its admission to the UN as a full member, he said.
Since the beginning of the current conflict in Gaza, military adventurism and frequent abuses of force have emerged, causing profound changes in the regional situation, Geng Shuang noted. China calls on all parties to respect the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Middle Eastern countries, and on Israel to sincerely respect the rights of the region's people to survival and development.
