New York, September 24 (Xinhua) — The Global Governance Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping has provided guidance for reforming and improving global governance, and China is willing to cooperate with Austria to strengthen multilateral communication and coordination and jointly work to improve global governance. Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who is in New York to attend the general debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, made this statement on Tuesday during a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stoecker.

According to Li Qiang, since the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other as equals since the establishment of diplomatic relations, these relations have withstood the test of the changing international situation and have generally developed steadily.

In recent years, under the strategic leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, the two sides have enriched aspects of their relations and elevated them to a friendly strategic partnership, Li Qiang noted, adding that bilateral cooperation has advanced in various fields, bringing tangible benefits to both sides.

China is willing to take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Austria next year as an opportunity to intensify high-level exchanges, strengthen political mutual trust and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation so as to achieve more practical results, the Chinese Premier said.

Li Qiang also expressed hope that Austria will adhere to the one-China principle and make efforts to build a solid political foundation for bilateral relations.

He added that the economies of China and Austria have strong complementarity and numerous overlapping interests, which opens up broad opportunities and potential for deepening cooperation.

He said China is willing to continue to utilize bilateral exchange mechanisms, such as the joint commissions with Austria on economic and trade cooperation and scientific and technological cooperation, to promote the continuous expansion and modernization of bilateral trade.

Li Qiang called on both sides to strengthen cooperation in areas such as green transition and digital economy, and promote innovation, sustainable development and high-quality growth in industry.

The two sides should also expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges, promote personnel exchanges, and develop new areas of cooperation in culture and tourism, Li Qiang said.

He called on Austria to encourage the European Union to view China-EU relations from the perspective of strategic autonomy and a long-term perspective, pursue a positive and pragmatic China policy, and cooperate with China to safeguard multilateralism and free trade so as to bring greater benefits to China and the EU, as well as the rest of the world.
