BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) — China has established 63 new colleges offering bachelor's-level vocational education in the past five years, Vice Education Minister Xiong Sihao said on Tuesday.
In China, vocational schools are divided into three levels of education: secondary, higher, and undergraduate. Currently, the country has 9,302 secondary vocational schools, 1,562 higher vocational schools, and 87 undergraduate schools. They enroll a total of 34 million students, the deputy minister noted at a departmental press conference.
Based on the above indicators, China boasts the world's largest vocational education system, the deputy minister stated, adding that this system, consisting of 1,434 specialties, covers all industries included in the UN Industrial Classification System.
China is also making efforts to integrate production activities and education to better link the cultivation of skilled labor with regional economic and industrial development, Xiong Sihao concluded. -0-
