BEIJING, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) — Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun met with a delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives led by House Armed Services Committee member Adam Smith in Beijing on Monday.
Dong Jun called on the visiting US Congress members to remove destructive and restrictive factors and take constructive and pragmatic steps to play an active role in improving relations between the armed forces of China and the United States.
The Chinese military, he continued, is ready to work with the US military to build a relationship based on equality, mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, stability, and a positive approach. At the same time, the PRC military will resolutely defend the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests, the minister emphasized.
