TIANJIN, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) — Since the beginning of 2025, more than 50,000 standard containers (TEU, twenty-foot equivalent units) have been shipped by freight trains from Tianjin, northern China, on the China-Europe/Central Asia international rail freight routes, according to data from Tianjin Customs.
Tianjin is a key transportation hub for the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor and a crossing point for the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Currently, China-Europe/Central Asia trains pass through the Tianjin region, traveling in all three directions—eastern, central, and western.
According to a representative of a local container shipping company, customs authorities' measures to simplify transit cargo delivery procedures "from port to warehouse" allow for the entire process, from container unloading to delivery to the warehouse, to be completed quickly, reducing container turnaround time by 1-2 days.
According to statistics, as of September 15, 2025, a total of 492 freight trains operating on international China-Europe/Central Asia routes, carrying 52,890 TEUs, have been dispatched under the supervision and management of Tianjin Customs. The number of TEUs transported increased by 15 percent year-on-year.
