BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) — China has made great efforts to ensure women have equal access to education at all levels and to ensure that women's right to education is effectively guaranteed, according to a white paper released Friday titled "China's Achievements in All-Round Development of Women's Affairs in the New Era."
Gender disparities in basic education have been largely eliminated, the document states.
According to the data provided, in 2024, girls accounted for 47.3% of children in kindergartens and 46.98% of students in nine-year compulsory schools, while over 99.9% of all school-age girls entered school.
Gender balance has been effectively achieved in higher education, the White Paper notes. In 2024, the number of female students in higher education reached 50.76%, 14.15 percentage points higher than the 1995 level. Of these, 50.01% were postgraduate students, 22.43 percentage points higher than in 1995.
According to the White Paper, the average years of schooling for Chinese women aged 15 and above reached 9.59 in 2020. -0-
