Beijing, September 18 (Xinhua) — Electric vehicle charging infrastructure in China continues to grow rapidly, with the total number of charging stations reaching approximately 17.35 million by the end of August this year, up 53.5 percent year-on-year, according to data released Thursday by the National Energy Administration.

The aforementioned devices include 4.32 million public facilities, a 37.8 percent increase year-on-year, and their combined rated capacity amounted to 196 million kilowatts, according to the agency.

By the end of August, the number of private charging stations reached 13.03 million, an increase of 59.6 percent year-on-year.

The steady growth of charging infrastructure is consistent with the continued expansion of China's EV market, which saw double-digit growth in production and sales between January and August.

In the first eight months of this year, production and sales volumes of new energy vehicles amounted to 9.625 million and 9.62 million units, respectively, up 37.3 percent and 36.7 percent year-on-year, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). -0-
