Tbilisi, September 17 /Xinhua/ — Georgia's Batumi International Airport will exceed its annual passenger traffic record of 1.2 million by the end of 2025, the press service of Georgia's Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported on Wednesday, citing Mariam Kvrivishvili, head of the ministry.
As noted, the airport has already completed reconstruction of the runway, including major repairs to the artificial surface in critical sections stretching for 1 km and doubling the number of aircraft parking spaces, which will allow the airport to simultaneously accommodate nine medium-sized aircraft and one helicopter.
This year, there are also plans to expand passport control areas in the arrivals and departures areas, as well as to create additional space at the entrance to the terminal.
In the first eight months of 2025, Batumi International Airport handled 840,893 passengers, a 32 percent increase compared to the same period last year, while flight frequency increased by 45 percent. Currently, 22 airlines operate flights to 24 destinations from Batumi Airport, with a frequency of approximately 160 flights per week.
"Given the growth trend, the airport's infrastructure requires increased capacity and expansion. It's noteworthy that Batumi International Airport is demonstrating the highest passenger traffic growth rate among the country's international airports," said M. Kvrivishvili.
