Over the past 70 years, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR)'s electric power industry has undergone tremendous changes, and the new energy industry has developed rapidly.
As of the end of July this year, the total installed capacity of power units in Xinjiang had reached 226 million kW, of which 134 million kW came from new energy sources, accounting for about 60%. This shows that Xinjiang's energy structure has accelerated its transition to cleaner energy.
In April this year, thanks to a new market-oriented trading model, solar energy generated at midday in Xinjiang became the source of electricity for Beijing's nighttime lighting for the first time.
In November 2010, the project to connect the power systems of Xinjiang and Northwest China with a voltage of 750 kV was put into operation, opening the way for the transmission of electricity from Xinjiang to other regions of the country.
With the completion of a series of power transmission and transformation projects, Xinjiang's ability to supply electricity to other regions in the country has continued to improve. The network now covers 22 provincial-level regions across the country.
As of the end of July this year, the total outgoing power transmission volume from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region reached 946.358 billion kWh, of which 278.511 billion kWh was from new energy sources, accounting for nearly a third of the total transmission volume.
