Yerevan, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — A memorandum of cooperation between virtual observatories of China and Armenia was signed at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Armenia on Monday during the international conference “Astronomical Prospects and Big Data – 3”.

The signatories of the memorandum were the virtual observatories of the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAC) and the V. A. Ambartsumyan Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.

Cui Chenzhou, a representative of the National Astronomical Observatory of the CAS, noted that the Chinese observatory attaches great importance to cooperation with the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory, which has long-standing scientific traditions and significant achievements.

According to him, the memorandum will facilitate the exchange of research data between observatories of the two countries and also provides for the implementation of educational programs.

Director of the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory Areg Mikaelyan called cooperation with Chinese colleagues extremely important in terms of scientific research.

The conference, which started on Monday, brought together more than a dozen leading scientists and specialists from Armenia, Germany, Spain, China, the Netherlands, the USA, France and other countries. –0–
