MADRID, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — The Chinese and U.S. delegations, based on the principles of mutual respect and equal consultation, have been holding frank, in-depth and constructive discussions on trade and economic issues of common interest, including TikTok, China's representative in international trade talks and Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang said at a press conference in Madrid on Monday following the bilateral talks.
According to him, the parties fully recognized that stable trade and economic relations between China and the United States are of great importance to both countries, and also have a tangible impact on the stability and development of the global economy.
China and the United States are two major powers with different levels of development and different economic systems, and it is quite normal for them to have friction and disagreements in the process of trade and economic cooperation, Li Chenggang noted. Li Chenggang said that during this meeting, the two sides had a frank and in-depth discussion on the TikTok issue and China's related concerns. The two sides reached a basic framework consensus on resolving TikTok-related issues through cooperation, reducing investment barriers, and promoting related economic and trade cooperation.
Li Chenggang said the two sides will continue to maintain close communication and discuss the details of the respective final documents, each of which will undergo domestic approval procedures.
