ALMATY, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Kazakhstan are launching instruments to decarbonize heat supply as part of the "Decarbonization of the Thermal Power Sector of Kazakhstan" project, the press service of the country's Energy Ministry reported on Monday.

The Astana workshop summed up the results of a project aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the heating sector and launched the first series of heat supply development schemes for selected cities in Kazakhstan. Welcoming remarks were made by Vice Minister of Energy Sungat Yesimkhanov and ADB Country Director for Kazakhstan Utsav Kumar.

Dornier Project Manager Ilka Levington presented the final report on the implementation of the fifth phase of the Knowledge and Experience Exchange Programme (KEEEP). Participants discussed the priorities for the transition of the heat supply sector to sustainable development, the introduction of rules and methodologies for developing heat supply development schemes, as well as practical steps for their implementation.

In 2013, the Government of Kazakhstan and ADB launched a joint Knowledge and Experience Sharing Program through a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance policy dialogue through demand-driven, timely and cutting-edge research and capacity development.

The POZO activities are carried out in phases. The fifth phase of POZO is carried out from September 2023 to December 2027 and has a budget of US$3 million. –0–
