Vladivostok, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) — A tsunami threat has been issued in Kamchatka after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake, Kamchatka Krai Governor Vladimir Solodov reported on his Telegram channel on Saturday.

"The magnitude was 6.3, in the regional capital the tremors were felt at 4-6 points. A tsunami threat has been declared. We ask you to be especially careful when visiting Khalaktyrsky beach and other tsunami-hazardous areas," the head of the region said.

According to the governor, specialists have begun inspecting socially significant facilities and housing stock. At the moment, there is no information about destruction or serious damage.

As reported by the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 was recorded off the eastern coast of Kamchatka at 14:37 Saturday Kamchatka time with coordinates 53.0119 north latitude and 160.4422 east longitude. The epicenter of the tremor was located 123 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The earthquake's source was at a depth of 46.8 km.
