BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) — The Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) of China on Friday adopted amendments to the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China.
The revised law, which will come into force on December 1, 2025, aims to tighten controls on liquid infant formulas and the bulk transport of liquid food products by road.
The revised law introduces a licensing system for the road transport of bulk essential liquid foodstuffs and clarifies the responsibilities of shippers, consignees and carriers.
In addition, the adopted amendments to this law strictly prohibit any organizations or individuals from falsifying or altering shipping documents and container clearance certificates for such products, and severe penalties are provided for in the document in case of violation.
To better ensure the quality and safety of infant formula, the amendments state that such products should be regulated on a registration basis and should not be produced in pre-packaged form.
Under the revised law, manufacturers of such products will be required to comply with registered product recipes and technical standards.
The Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China was enacted in 2009. It was comprehensively revised in 2015, and further amendments were made in 2018 and 2021. -0-
