BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — China's introduction of a visa-free regime for Russians will help develop cross-border tourism in Suifenhe, a city in Heilongjiang Province on the border between China and Russia, according to a statement posted on the website of Suifenhe City Hall.

Let us recall that on September 2, at a regular press conference, the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, announced that China would introduce a trial visa-free regime for Russian citizens holding ordinary passports from September 15, 2025 to September 14, 2026.

Russian citizens holding valid ordinary passports may visit China under a visa-free regime for the purposes of doing business, making tourist trips, visiting relatives and friends, exchanging visits, and for transit, the period of their stay in China should not exceed 30 days.

As noted by the Service Center for Tourism Development in Suifenhe, the above-mentioned decision of the Chinese side will significantly simplify entry and customs clearance procedures for Russian tourists and will contribute to a steady increase in passenger traffic at the Suifenhe checkpoint, and will also open up new opportunities for the development of such industries as cross-border tourism, catering and hotel business. This service center is ready to comprehensively improve the level of service, expand the offer of cultural and tourist products and help Russian tourists get to know the Chinese culture and customs of Suifenhe more deeply.

Suifenhe is the largest land port in Heilongjiang Province and has two national first-class ports, one for railways and one for highways. In recent years, Suifenhe has been actively promoting the deep integration of culture and tourism under the “tourism plus” model, relying on its unique geographical advantages.

In 2023, China and Russia officially resumed visa-free travel for group tourism. Against this backdrop, cross-border tourism in Suifenhe has seen a revival.

Suifenhe People's Hospital has been actively developing medical tourism, combining traditional Chinese medicine services such as acupuncture and massage, and offering a customized medical checkup package for Russian tourists. Since the beginning of this year, it has received more than 8,000 Russian patients. At the same time, cross-border shopping tours, educational tours for students, and tours for parents with children have become widespread in Suifenhe. -0-
