The city of Heihe in Heilongjiang Province and Blagoveshchensk in Russia's Amur Region, which are located in the border regions of China and Russia, are separated by a river and are figuratively called twin cities.
At 7:00 a.m. on September 6, in Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province, at the Heihe-Blagoveshchensk Highway Bridge, the 2025 China-Russia Cross-Border Marathon Series (2025 Heihe Marathons) was launched.
The competition was organized by the Sports Administration of Heilongjiang Province, the People's Government of Heihe City, and the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Amur Region of Russia.
The competition included a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10-kilometer cross-border bridge run and a mass run, which attracted about 4,000 Chinese and foreign participants.
Of particular interest in the event was the 10-kilometer run across the bridge over the border river Heilongjiang (Amur). Participants ran across the border on the bridge and finished on Russian territory at the Kani-Kurgan road checkpoint.
The cross-border marathons are a new testament to the vitality and friendship of these "twin cities".
