BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) — The first China-Central Asia Special Forces Police Skills Competition kicked off in Urumqi, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on Monday, bringing together 80 special police officers from five countries including China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, according to a statement released on the official website of the Ministry of Public Security.

The statement said the competition aims to jointly promote law enforcement capacity building, further strengthen cooperation between China and Central Asian countries in combating terrorism and transnational crime, promote regional security governance, and make positive contributions to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The competition will last for three days. The participants will demonstrate their level in 7 disciplines, covering professional and tactical skills in the police service, such as rope descent and ascent, driving, overcoming obstacles, first aid, etc.

In recent years, bilateral and multilateral cooperation between law enforcement agencies of China and Central Asian countries has developed positively. The two sides have achieved fruitful results in counter-terrorism, drug control, cyber security and combating transnational organized crime. -0-
