HARBIN, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) — The construction of the Tongjiang Bridge, the longest bridge structure on the border sections of the "eastern corridor" of China-Europe international railway freight routes, has begun recently as part of the project to reconstruct and expand the capacity of the Jiamusi-Tongjiang Railway in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the Harbin branch of China Railway Corporation (CRC) said.
The project, which is 258.25 km long and runs from Jiamusi East Station to Tongjiang North Station, is a trunk railway with mainly freight and passenger traffic. Its construction began in May 2024. The Tongjiang Large Bridge, which is over 10,435 m long and is located on the section from Tongjiang Station to Tongjiang North Station, is designed as a single-track T-shaped structure.
As a vital project along the entire route, the Tongjiang Bridge will require the installation of all 638 T-beams, said Wang Xiaohui, deputy project director of the Jiamusi-Tongjiang Project Bureau 23 of the China Railway Construction Corporation. The manufacturing of 313 T-beams and the installation of 300 of them are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, and the entire supporting structure will be installed by August 2026.
It is reported that after the commissioning of this project, the throughput capacity of the Jiamusi-Tongjiang Railway will increase more than fourfold.
