BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) — The public legal services sector provided more than 170 million legal consultations during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), Chinese Justice Minister He Rong said Monday at a press conference on the performance of China's judicial system over the past five years.
She noted that the country has also stepped up efforts to improve the balance and accessibility of public legal services in different regions, while actively addressing the legal needs of groups such as rural migrant workers, people with disabilities, the elderly, youth and adolescents, military personnel and their families.
According to the minister, there are currently 830,000 lawyers, 67,000 arbitrators, 15,000 notaries, 40,000 forensic experts, and 12,000 legal aid workers in China. Together, they handle more than 40 million cases a year.
