BEIJING, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Water Resources on Sunday activated a Level 4 flood alert in Guangdong Province and the southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as Typhoon Tapa, the 16th typhoon this year, approaches.

According to the department's statement, the aforementioned provincial-level administrative units will be hit by heavy rainfall caused by Typhoon Tapa from September 7 to 10.

To address potential flood risks, the ministry held a series of consultations to thoroughly prepare measures to protect against heavy rains and floods. It instructed water management departments in both regions to closely monitor the development of rainfall and flooding, track the typhoon's trajectory, strengthen weather forecasting and early warning, and ensure the safe operation of waterworks, reservoirs, and construction sites.

In addition, the aforementioned regional water management agencies were ordered to strengthen patrols and dam protection, and to prepare to combat flooding in small and medium-sized rivers, the risk of mountain torrents and flooding of urban areas in order to ensure the safety of life and property of the population. -0-
