BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — The Eastern Zone Combat Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) is on high alert and fully prepared to take decisive action to safeguard national sovereignty and security and maintain regional peace and stability, command spokesman Shi Yi said Saturday.
Shi Yi made the statement while commenting on the passage of Canadian and Australian warships through the Taiwan Strait.
The Canadian frigate Quebec and the Australian destroyer Brisbane sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Saturday in a provocative move that sent false signals and increased security risks, a spokesman said.
