BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — China has agreed to join the New York Declaration, in line with its consistent position on the Palestinian issue, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday.

Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to a question about the document adopted following the UN High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question and the Realization of the "Two States for Two Peoples" Principle.

The official representative noted that the Palestinian issue is the core of the Middle East problem and is currently at a turning point.

"We support all efforts to promote a political settlement of this issue. China will continue to work with the international community in making unremitting efforts to end the fighting in the Gaza Strip, ease the humanitarian crisis, realize the principle of 'two states for two peoples' and achieve a final, comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue," Guo Jiakun stressed. -0-
