BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities on Thursday issued guidelines aimed at unleashing the consumption potential of the sports economy as part of a broader effort to boost high-quality development of related industries.
According to a document released by the Office of the State Council, China will aim to build a series of sports enterprises and competitions with global influence by 2030, which will help increase the size of the domestic sports industry to more than 7 trillion yuan (about $985.2 billion).
The document outlines 20 measures in six areas, including expanding the supply of sports goods and events, stimulating sports consumption, supporting sports businesses and creating new growth points in relevant industries.
Specific measures include developing the outdoor sports industry, strengthening the winter economy, upgrading sports equipment, expanding sports consumption scenarios, and deepening cooperation in the sports industry.
The guidelines also call for efforts to promote the digitalisation of the sports sector, strengthen training and financial support, and improve the level of services in the relevant sectors. -0-
