SHANGHAI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) — East China's Shanghai auto industry continued to grow steadily in the first seven months of this year, producing vehicles worth 391.12 billion yuan (about 55 billion U.S. dollars), with a year-on-year comparable growth rate of 10.6 percent.

Notably, more than 160,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs) were sold in the eastern Chinese metropolis during the period, up 19.9 percent from a year earlier, the city's Economics and Information Technology Committee reported.

According to the department, the total production volume of finished vehicles in Shanghai during the reporting period amounted to 938 thousand units, of which NEVs were 573 thousand units, or 61.1 percent of the city's total automobile production.

Shanghai has been actively promoting technological innovation in the intelligent connected vehicle sector and industry development. To date, it has issued road test and demonstration licenses to 902 vehicles belonging to 40 companies.

The total test mileage of such vehicles in the city has exceeded 29.3 million km. Shanghai has also opened 1,586 test roads for intelligent connected vehicles with a total length of 2,767 km. -0-
