Tbilisi, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) — The Georgian Parliament on Wednesday approved the candidacy of Mamuka Mdinaradze for the post of head of the State Security Service (SSS) of the country at a plenary session.
According to information distributed by the press service of the legislative body, all 85 deputies present voted unanimously for the appointment of M. Mdinaradze.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili congratulated the new head of the State Security Service on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen the national security system.
Prior to his appointment, M. Mdinaradze held the post of executive secretary of the ruling party “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia”.
He succeeds Anri Okhanashvili, who was appointed head of the SSS in April 2025 for a six-year term but resigned in August. According to the government, Okhanashvili will continue to work as an adviser to the prime minister on national security issues. –0–
