Moscow, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — Russia supports the initiative put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping to create a more effective system of global governance, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday during a speech at an expanded meeting of the SCO Plus in Tianjin.
According to Russian media, V. Putin noted in his speech that “Russia supports the initiative of Chairman Xi Jinping and is interested in beginning a concrete discussion of the proposals put forward by our Chinese friends.”
The Russian leader recalled that since its establishment in 2001, the SCO has been “actively involved in efforts to create an atmosphere of peace and security, trust and cooperation on the common Eurasian continent.” “In this regard, we have certainly listened attentively to everything that Mr. Xi Jinping has proposed to create a new, more effective and functional system of global governance,” he assured.
V. Putin emphasized that the proposals of the Chinese side are relevant in conditions where “some countries still do not abandon their desire for dictatorship in international affairs.”
“It seems that the SCO could take on a leading role in efforts to form a more just and equal system of global governance in the world, which would be based on the primacy of international law and the key provisions of the UN Charter, would be truly balanced and would take into account the interests of the widest possible range of countries, and would guarantee opportunities for their sustainable development and security,” the Russian leader noted. –0–
