TRIPOLI, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) — A powerful explosion rocked the Skirat area near the Misrata industrial zone, about 200 km east of the Libyan capital Tripoli, on Sunday, Libyan Al-Masar TV reported, but there was no official statement on the cause.
Misrata Medical Center spokesman Mohamed Al-Nihoum told Libya's Al-Ahrar TV channel that six people with minor and moderate injuries were taken to the hospital.
The blast sent flaming shells and shrapnel raining down on nearby residential areas, prompting authorities to evacuate the surrounding areas. Ambulances and civil defense teams rushed to the scene, while security forces closed roads leading to the site.
