BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Commerce on Saturday expressed opposition to the U.S. decision to revoke the "verified end user" (VEU) status of three semiconductor companies operating in China, calling on the U.S. side to immediately change its wrong practices.
China took note of the U.S. Commerce Department's announcement on Friday that it would remove Intel Semiconductor (Dalian) Co., Ltd., Samsung China Semiconductor Co., Ltd. and SK Hynix Semiconductor (China) Ltd. from the VEU list, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said.
The semiconductor industry is a highly globalized industry that has transformed into a deeply interconnected ecosystem through the combined influence of market factors and business decisions over decades of development, the Chinese official said.
The US decision, based on its own self-interest, has turned export controls into a tool and will have a serious negative impact on the stability of global production and supply chains in the semiconductor industry, the Chinese official emphasized, expressing disagreement with the US decision.
China called on the US side to immediately change its wrong practices and ensure the safety of the global semiconductor production and supply chain. China will take necessary measures to resolutely protect the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises, the spokesman added. -0-
