NEW YORK, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — Two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed and 17 others were injured in a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday morning, police confirmed.

According to law enforcement officials, 14 children were injured, two of whom are in critical condition. The school educates children from preschool age to eighth grade.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said at a news conference that the shooter, armed with a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol, killed himself in the back of the church. The suspect, in his 20s or 30s, had no criminal history.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz expressed support for the school community in a statement posted on social media site X. “My prayers go out to our children and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence,” he wrote. –0–
