Astana, Aug. 27 /Xinhua/ — President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was awarded the highest state award of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Al-Nahda Order, in Astana on Wednesday. The award was presented by King of Jordan Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, Kazinform reported on Wednesday, citing the Akorda press service.

It is reported that on Wednesday in Akorda, K.-Zh. Tokayev held talks with King Abdullah II, who is visiting Kazakhstan, in narrow and expanded formats. Abdullah II noted the personal contribution of the Kazakh leader to strengthening friendly ties and cooperation between the two countries. The head of Kazakhstan expressed gratitude to the King and people of Jordan for their high assessment.

The parties discussed the prospects for strategic partnership and noted that bilateral relations are experiencing their most productive period in the past three decades. According to Kazinform, the King of Jordan emphasized the shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and deepening ties in various sectors, expressing confidence that the agreements reached and their implementation will become a solid foundation for expanding partnership.

As reported by Kazinform, during the visit it is planned to sign more than 15 agreements covering transport, energy, logistics, agriculture, IT and digitalization, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and other areas. The key event will be the Kazakh-Jordanian business forum in Astana with the participation of about 300 entrepreneurs and investors.

Special attention was paid to cooperation in the nuclear sphere. Chairman of the Board of the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna Nurlan Zhakupov announced the signing of an agreement between Kazatomprom and the national company of Jordan Jumco on the joint development of uranium deposits in the presence of the leaders of the two countries. The document provides for industrial research on the extractability and enrichment of uranium by the end of 2026. In case of positive results, a joint venture will be created with shares of 70% for Kazatomprom and 30% for Jumco. President K.-Zh. Tokayev confirmed support for this area of cooperation.

K.-Zh. Tokayev recalled that following the February meeting in Amman, the parties set the task of increasing mutual trade turnover to 500 million US dollars. According to him, Kazakhstan is ready to expand supplies to the Jordanian market of 60 types of non-commodity goods for a total of 250 million US dollars. The head of state informed the Jordanian side about Kazakhstan's initiatives to expand the international transport and logistics network and proposed to consider the joint development of intermodal transportation between Central Asia and the Middle East. The potential for developing cooperation in agriculture, tourism and digitalization, as well as in the humanitarian sphere – from joint research to inter-university partnerships – was noted.

The Jordanian side, as reported by Kazinform, proposed cooperation using its experience in the development of medicine, pharmaceuticals, the halal industry and the defense industry. Plans were announced for Royal Jordanian Airlines to launch direct flights on the Amman-Almaty route next year to intensify humanitarian and business contacts. –0–
