LOS ANGELES, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — The U.S. Department of Transportation said Tuesday it has canceled $175 million in funding for four high-speed rail projects in California.
The Donald Trump administration said Tuesday it would stop funding work on the multi-level crossings and overpasses and the design and construction of the Madera train station.
“As of today, the American people have stopped investing in California’s failed experiment,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
California spent about $15 billion to build high-speed rail. The state filed a lawsuit in July to challenge the funding cut, calling the decision illegal.
The project, which won voter approval for a $10 billion bond issue in 2008, includes more than 50 major structures such as bridges, overpasses and viaducts. –0–
