HANOI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — At least three people have been killed and 10 others injured in northern and central Vietnam due to heavy rains, strong winds and floods triggered by Typhoon Kajiki, the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said on Tuesday.
The storm also damaged more than 6,800 houses, flooded more than 28,800 hectares of rice crops and 2,200 hectares of other crops, and knocked down almost 18,000 trees, Voice of Vietnam radio reported, citing the department.
The typhoon damaged energy infrastructure: 331 power poles fell, and almost 1.3 million consumers lost power supply.
Local authorities continue restoration work and assess the full extent of the damage. –0–
