UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday strongly condemned the killing of Palestinians in Israeli strikes on Nasser Hospital in the Gaza Strip's Khan Younis, UN Secretary-General's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.
As S. Dujarric noted in his statement, among the dead, in addition to civilians, were medical workers and journalists.
“These latest horrific killings highlight the extreme risks that health workers and journalists face in carrying out their vital work in this brutal conflict,” the spokesperson said. “The Secretary-General reiterates that civilians, including medical personnel and reporters, must be respected and protected at all times. He calls for an immediate and impartial investigation into these killings.”
The UN Secretary-General reiterated that medical personnel and journalists must be able to carry out their essential duties without interference, intimidation or threats of harm, in full compliance with international humanitarian law, noted S. Dujarric.
According to the statement, A. Guterres also reiterated his call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian access throughout Gaza, and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. –0–
