BERLIN, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — A major fire broke out at a warehouse in the northern German port city of Hamburg on Monday afternoon, causing explosions and further spread of the flames, local authorities said.

More than 100 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. A fire service spokesman said several people were injured, but declined to give an exact number, adding that the number was no more than 10.

The fire brigade said the blaze started when a car parked inside a warehouse in the port area in the southeast of the city caught fire, causing gas cylinders to explode and the flames to spread to neighbouring warehouses. –0–
