TEHRAN, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday that Iran has no aspirations to acquire nuclear weapons, the Iranian presidential office said in a statement.

M. Pezeshkian promised to personally oversee the progress of the accelerated construction of the Rasht-Astara railway, which is a key link in the International North-South Transport Corridor, which connects the Persian Gulf with Russia and Central Asia, as well as other bilateral projects.

The Iranian President also stressed the role of multilateral platforms such as the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS in strengthening cooperation among member states to counter unilateralism.

V. Putin, for his part, informed M. Pezeschkian about the main aspects and results of his recent talks with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, noting that these talks had produced positive results that could contribute to the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

In addition, V. Putin reaffirmed Russia's firm support for Iran's right to enrich uranium, calling it a vital element of bilateral cooperation. –0–
