BEIRUT, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — The first oil tanker arrived from Kuwait to Lebanese territorial waters on Saturday in line with an agreement to supply Lebanon with urgently needed fuel for power plants, the office of the Lebanese energy minister said.
Under the agreement, Kuwait will provide 132,000 tons of gas oil to Lebanon's state-owned energy company EDL, of which 66,000 tons will be donated.
Lebanon's Energy Minister Joe Saddi said Lebanon's public debt would not increase as a result of the deal, as the cost of the purchased oil would be covered by EDL revenues.
He also expressed gratitude to Kuwait, highlighting its long-standing support for Lebanon in times of crisis. –0–
