CAIRO, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — Six students drowned and 24 others were injured on Saturday at a beach in Alexandria province northwest of Cairo, Egypt's Health Ministry said in a statement.

The victims were members of a student group on a tour organized by an academy specializing in aviation services, the department said.

Ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Three of the injured were treated on the beach, while 21 others were taken to nearby hospitals.

Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stressed the ministry's commitment to supporting the wounded and their families, as well as closely monitoring medical and emergency measures, the statement said.

The ministry did not provide details about the circumstances of the incident, but called on the public to follow safety rules on the beach, especially during group outings, to prevent similar incidents. –0–
