ISLAMABAD, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday urged young agricultural graduates heading to China for education to learn modern Chinese practices to help transform Pakistan's agriculture sector.
Speaking at a send-off ceremony for the second batch of 300 students under the Prime Minister's initiative of 'Growing 1,000 Agricultural Talents in China' – an inter-governmental programme launched last year – Mr Sharif said Pakistan's progress is directly linked to the growth of its agriculture sector.
Pakistan's future prosperity, he said, was closely linked to strengthening its agricultural economy, which remained the country's mainstay.
Sharif said the initiative was launched following his visit to Shaanxi Province in northwest China, where he was deeply impressed by the quality of practical training at local agricultural universities. The Prime Minister thanked the Chinese government for supporting Pakistan in youth development and agricultural modernization.
“China has developed the latest high-quality farming techniques and the introduction of such technologies in Pakistan will greatly benefit our farmers,” Mutasaddiq Ali, an agricultural engineer specializing in agricultural mechanization, told Xinhua after the ceremony, adding that increased yields and reduced losses would directly support rural livelihoods. –0–
