NEW DELHI, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — At least four people were killed and 30 others were injured, some in serious condition, after a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas exploded in a road accident in India's northern Punjab state, officials said on Saturday.

The blast occurred on Friday night near an industrial area in Hoshiarpur district, about 137 km northwest of Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab state.

Officials said the pickup truck collided with a liquefied petroleum gas tanker, causing an explosion and a massive fire. Four homes and 15 shops in the area were reportedly damaged.

The police have opened a case and ordered an investigation into the incident. –0–
