BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — Members of the central delegation in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region returned to Beijing on Saturday after attending celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the region's founding, meeting with local cadres and the masses, and learning about Xizang's socio-economic development.
Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and head of the central delegation, visited Shigatse with the core group of the delegation on Saturday morning, where he met with the city's leadership and representatives of various ethnic groups and social circles.
Wang Huning stressed the need to fully implement the Party's strategy for governing Xizang in the new era and make further progress in ensuring long-term stability and tranquility and promoting high-quality development in the autonomous region.
Other groups of the delegation visited the cities of Chamdo, Nagchu, Nyingchi and Shannan, where they became acquainted with achievements in the fields of education, medicine, health care and the protection of cultural heritage.
A farewell ceremony was held for the delegation upon their departure. -0-
