BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — "There are valuable fish species, the rudd, the beautiful Khubutu River, and I can chat with Russian fishermen, which is completely in line with my purpose of going on a fishing trip," said a man surnamed Wang from Beijing. Many Chinese and Russian fishing enthusiasts have gathered in Dongning, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, in recent days.

According to the Chinese newspaper Zhongguo Wenhuabao /Chinese Culture/, in May 2025, the three-month 3rd China-Russia Fishing Festival “Spring on the Border River” kicked off in Dongning, jointly organized by the provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Department of Sports.

The event, which consists of 13 thematic sections, will feature a range of activities including fishing in border rivers, a trade fair, food tastings and cultural exchanges, which have so far attracted more than 3,000 fishing enthusiasts from Russia, North Korea, Japan and China.

According to the head of the Dongning Department of Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism, the festival not only helped shape the Sino-Russian fishing brand, but also created a platform for exchanges between the two countries, offering a benchmark model for the high-quality development of border tourism in Heilongjiang Province. -0-
