BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — China's State Council executive meeting on Friday called for strengthening overall coordination and improving the implementation mechanisms of the national large-scale equipment upgrade and trade-in programs for consumer goods to better utilize their stimulating role in expanding domestic demand.

The meeting, chaired by Premier of the State Council Li Qiang, heard reports on the progress of the above-mentioned programs and emphasized the need to further strengthen fiscal, tax and financial support policies, create innovative consumption and investment scenarios, improve conditions for them and take comprehensive measures to unlock the potential of domestic demand.

Emphasizing the role of the sports industry and consumption in this sector in increasing domestic demand, participants called for increasing the supply of sports goods, ensuring the diversity of sports competitions and events, creating new growth factors, expanding sports consumption scenarios, and encouraging regions to organize sports-themed consumer events.

The meeting also reviewed and approved the master plan for the Three Norths protective afforestation program. It particularly emphasized the need to strengthen the ecological safety barrier in northern China, guide regions to develop local specialized industries that suit their conditions, and achieve comprehensive win-win results in terms of environmental, economic and social benefits.
