Moscow, August 22 (Xinhua) — Russia has agreed to show flexibility on a number of points proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump after the Alaska summit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with NBC News on Friday.
“President Trump proposed several points after Anchorage that we share, and on some of them we agreed to show some flexibility,” TASS quotes him as saying.
At the same time, S. Lavrov emphasized that the Ukrainian side rejected all the principles that D. Trump outlined at the meeting on the Ukrainian settlement in Washington, which followed the Russian-American summit. On Monday, the US President first held a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and then a multilateral meeting with the participation of V. Zelensky and a number of European leaders in the White House. “There are several principles that, in Washington’s opinion, must be accepted, including non-accession /of Ukraine/ to NATO, including discussion of territorial issues. And Zelensky said “no” to everything,” the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
According to S. Lavrov, Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to meet with V. Zelensky if the agenda were prepared. “This agenda is not ready at all,” the minister said, adding that the meeting is not planned. –0–
