UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — China's permanent representative to the United Nations Fu Cong called for stronger measures to combat terrorism in Syria at the Security Council on Thursday.
According to him, terrorist forces are becoming increasingly active in Syria, which is a cause for concern.
There are reports that foreign terrorist fighters were the main perpetrators of violent incidents in the western coastal region in March and in the southern province of As-Suwayda in July, Fu Cong noted. The envoy warned that continued connivance with terrorists would only cause further harm to Syria and other countries in the region.
“We urge the Syrian interim authorities to take decisive action against all terrorist organizations designated as such by the Security Council,” he said.
