ISLAMABAD, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Pakistan Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir here on Thursday.

Wang Yi said the Pakistani armed forces are the foundation of national stability and a staunch defender of China-Pakistan friendship and cooperation.

He stressed that the Pakistani military has always supported both sides in faithfully implementing the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepening strategic mutual trust at a higher level and jointly building a “version 2.0” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor with high quality, so as to accelerate the building of a closer community with a shared future in the new era.

In the context of rapid global changes unseen in a century and growing instability and uncertainty, strengthening China-Pakistan relations is conducive to maintaining regional peace and stability, the minister noted.

China has always given priority to Pakistan in its regional diplomacy, and the relations between the two countries have stood the test of time and become even stronger, he said. Both countries, which belong to the Eastern civilization, attach great importance to friendship and justice and have built an unbreakable traditional friendship, Wang added.

China will continue to support Pakistan in safeguarding its territorial integrity and national security, and welcomes Pakistan to play a more active role in international affairs, the Chinese top diplomat said.

A. Munir, in turn, noted that Beijing is a reliable friend of Islamabad, the two sides have always shared joys and sorrows, and their strategic partnership is as strong as a rock.

The entire Pakistani society is in favor of developing friendly relations with China, the Chief of Staff emphasized. He expressed sincere gratitude to China for its long-term support for Pakistan's socio-economic development.

The Pakistan Army is ready to actively promote cooperation with China in the areas of security and counter-terrorism, and will continue to make every effort to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, projects and organizations in Pakistan, contributing to the strengthening and development of all-weather friendship with China, added A. Munir. –0–
